W, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23)
The Women's Club Volleyball team celebrated 5 graduating seniors on Sunday and sent them off with a solid 3-0 win over RPI. The Pioneers jumped to an early lead in Set 1 with the help from sophomore
Mia Savignano's 5 digs and 3 kills and freshman
Elena Pasquale's 6 kills and 6 digs. MB Sophia Rogers (Fr) added 2 digs and 2 kills in the win, while setter
Charley Paul (Jr) ran a strong offense, grabbing 10 assists while also nabbing 7 digs.Â
RPI could not hold a lead in set 2 as SHU pulled through for the win with an even force from all attackers. Savignano, Ariel Kyere (So) and
Amanda Pizzi (Fr) all tallied 2 kills apiece. Freshman
Gianna Scaplehorn led the defense with 5 digs. Pizzi stepped it up in Set 3, leading all hitters with 4 kills, while adding 4 digs and an ace to her stats. Pasquale was right behind her with 3 kills and 3 digs in the 25-23 win.
Graduating Seniors
Jenna Mikolay (Senior Co-Captain, Libero) has competed all four years at SHU and has anchored the SHU defense this Spring. She averaged double digits in digs in all of her games this past year. Jenna's passion for Volleyball and leadership were shown every day.
Christie Kelley (Senior Co-Captain, Setter) returned to the court after a sprained ankle held her back for the latter part of the season to help run the SHU offense. Her drive to return to the court and her constant support for her teammates is an inspiration to all student-athletes.
Kristina Turner (Junior, Setter) is a tenacious player; her communication on the court and level of play elevated her teammates.Â
Charley Paul (Junior, Setter) brought a calm but fierce competitiveness to the court and pushed her teammates to the next level.
Taylor Patnode (Setter) did not play as she graduated in December but has been a solid setter and brought a positive attitude to the court for the last 3 1/2 seasons.
