About Us
SHU Gaming Club is recruiting for both competitive and casual gamers of all levels!
On the competitive side you will learn advanced mechanics, strategies and concepts of each game while increasing your skills and rankings. Each year students get 38 weeks of instruction by a team of Pro and College coaches. You will be competing against some of the top college teams across North America. Our proven curriculum will upgrade and enhance your skills through games specific training, teamwork, communication and leadership.
This Spring semester has been a huge step in the right direction for Esports at Sacred Heart. We built off the best semester in our history, adding teams for new games and more players on existing ones. Â
We're fortunate to be part of the ECAC Esports division, which includes a plethora of highly competitive schools along the east coast that we have the privilege of playing with. We compete in Overwatch 2, Valorant, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and League of Legends. Out of those games, we have enough highly trained and motivated players to fill two full team rosters for Overwatch, Valorant, and Rocket League, as well as nearly enough for a second SSBU and League of Legends team. Â
ECAC is not the only competitive league our students participate in, however. Out of their own volition, our players banded together to bring the Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) team back, which competes in the FaceIt league, which supports over 22 million gamers worldwide in highly competitive and rewarding tournaments. Â
As stated before, we are reaching new peaks for Varsity Esports every day. We are at an all-time high for enrollment and competitive players, and as our name spreads with each and every win, SHU is becoming a name in the competitive Esports space that other schools are beginning to fear coming up against. Some of our teams have competed in multiple high-level collegiate tournaments. In November 2022, our Rocket League team won their group stage for a tournament hosted by Rutgers University, which saw them travel to the in-person tournament hosted on a massive stage with thousands of spectators, live streamed by a professional production crew; all while they battled it out for the Rutgers Invitational title. Â
Additionally, our Varsity officers and players assist the Academic side of Esports at SHU by partaking in the development of the CT Esports Showcase, hosted by Sacred Heart. Our teams have won the showcase in the past, and with the sights set on the biggest showcase yet, we look repeat victories in all games. Â
Sacred Heart Esports is a thriving community of dedicated and talented gamers. With a roster of over 60 competitive players spread across 9 teams and participating in 6 different games, the club is a testament to the growing popularity of esports and the passion of its participants. As our players continue to grow in skill and competitiveness, we can expect SHU Esports to continue its upward trajectory. Keep an eye on this dynamic group as they continue to dominate the virtual arena! Â
