SHU D2 ice hockey had a one game Halloweenkend, playing the Hawks of Roger Williams University. In a nailbiter the Pioneers squeezed out a 6-4 win. Four goals were scored in a 3 minute span of the first period with sophomore
James O'Toole and senior
Troy Clement getting the ball rolling for the Pioneers giving them a quick 2-0 lead. Just as fast as the lead came it vanished with the Hawks putting in two of their own to tie the game going into the second period. In the second, the Hawks took a one goal lead before junior
Matt Milko and freshmen Rob Moliterno scored two short handed goals on the same penalty kill to give the Pioneers a 4-3 lead.
Sophomore
James Dillon tallied one of his own less than two minutes later to give the Pioneers a 5-3 lead going into the final frame. Roger Williams made it a one goal game half way through the period before sophomore James O'toole sealed the game with an empty netter, which was also his second goal of the night. Junior
Corey Splaine was the backbone in net recording his third win of the year with a 36 save performance and assisting on O'toole's empty net goal. The Pioneers are back in action next weekend visiting Roger Williams University on Friday, and Central Connecticut State University on Saturday, before returning home on Sunday for a huge faceoff against Keene State University at 3pm at Martire Family Arena.
