SHU ACHA D2 headed into this weekend's SECHL Conference championship tournament as the #2 seed behind top seed Army. After Siena survived a scare from #5 Marist on Friday, the Pioneers were set for a matchup with the #3 Saints. The 2 teams split their regular season contests, with each team winning at home. After a tight first 10 minutes of the game, SHU was first on the board with a goal off from team leading goal scorer freshman
Jackson Cantalupo off an assist from senior
James O'Toole. Junior goaltender Matt Dworkowitz shut out the opposing team to end the period. SHU headed to the locker room up 1-0. SHU killed off the first penalty of the game to start the second period, but Siena was able to tie the game in the 16th minute. The third period was tight, with a lot of back and forth play between the 2 teams and a place in the conference finals on the line. SHU was the first to blink, giving up the game winner with just over 2 minutes left to play. The team now awaits the final rankings of the season to see if they qualify for the ACHA D2 Northeast Regional Tournament for a chance to advance to the national championship.
