SHU ACHA men's D2 hockey closed out the semester with a win over the #2 ranked team in the Northeast, Farmingdale State College. After 2 quick goals from Farmingdale, SHU was got on the board off a goal from sophomore alternate captain Alex Walsh. The Pioneers tied the score early in the second with a powerplay goal from junior Thomas Franzosa. After shutting out the Rams in the second, freshman Jackson Cantalupo recorded the game winner off another Pioneer powerplay with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game. Shu was able to secure the 3-2 win and keep the Rams off the scoreboard for the final 2 periods behind an outstanding 37 save performance from junior goaltender Matt Dworkowtiz.
The Pioneers head into the semester break with a record of 10-5-2, including a 9-1-1 record over their last 11 games. The longest win streak of the season sits at 5 games with wins over top 10 teams Farmingdale State College and conference rival Army. The offense has been led by senior alternate captain James O'Toole, setting the pace with 17 points. 5 players netted their first career goal for SHU, freshmen Robert Sun, Nick Drogan, Jackson Cantalupo, Matt Venturi, and sophomore Dan Tarashansky. Junior Luke O'Sullivan recorded his first career hat trick, against Providence College on October 12th.
SHU returns after the new year on January 23rd when they travel to New Hampshire to take on St. Anslem College.
