Sacred Heart D2 ice hockey had a two game weekend at home facing the Marist Red Fox and the Drexel Dragons. On Friday the Red Fox came to Maritre Family Arena to a ready to play Pioneers team. The Pioneers put in 4 unanswered in the first period. Two goals were scored within 30 seconds by seniors Ryan Oechner and
Nick Chiurazzi before junior
Christos Caminis and freshman
Thomas Franzosa ended the period with two goals within 25 seconds of each other. The Pioneers would go scoreless for the remainder of the game but their four goals would be enough behind freshman Matt Dworkowitz 22 save performance.
On Sunday the Pioneers hosted the Drexel Dragons. In a back and forth matchup in which the Pioneers held most of the play in the Dragons end on the ice, the game remained only 1-0 Pioneers thanks to junior Micheal Cardoza's first period tally. In the third period the Dragons tied up the game early on before junior
Christos Caminis recorded the game winner with three minutes left in the game. The Pioneers would go on to win 2-1 before a strong goaltending performance by junior
Colin Gaughran. The Pioneers will be on the road next weekend heading to Rhode Island to face the Bryant Bulldogs before traveling to Massachusetts for a heavyweight tilt with the number six ranked Bentley Falcons to close out the first semester of play. Â
