SHU 3 - Stonybrook 2
STONYBROOK, LI. (October 19, 2024) – The Sacred Heart University club field hockey team came out with their first win of the season against Stonybrook on Saturday.
Stonybrook scored the first point of the game early in the 2
nd quarter off a penalty corner. SHU then scored 3 unanswered goals until the final minutes of the game. Senior
Gianna DiMarino scored the equalizer in the 3
rd quarter. Sophomore
Peyton Baum put the Pios up one late in the 3
rd quarter. Gianna sealed the win for the Pios with a rebound in the 4th quarter. Stonybrook scored a goal late in the 4th quarter with 3 minutes left, but it wasn't enough to overcome SHU's defense.
SHU 2 - Rutgers 2
New Brunswick, NJ (October 20, 2024) The Sacred Heart University club field hockey team tied Rutgers after a hard-fought game against the scrappy Rutgers team.
Rutgers scored the first goal of the game off a corner in the 1
st quarter. SHU equalized the game off a penalty corner. Becca Phelps with the initial shot and the assist and
Jenna Costa with the tip-in for the goal.
Kalyn Rosica put the Pios up one with an unassisted goal off a rebound. Rutgers tied the game up on a questionable call early in the 4th quarter. The PIOs were able to get a penalty corner when time ran out but were unable to get the goal in the final moments.
The PIOs return for their first home game on Sunday for Senior Day against IONA.
