SHU ACHA D2 handed conference rival Army their first loss of the season, downing the Black Knights 6-5 in overtime at the Martire Family Arena. This evens the season series between the two teams at one a piece.
SHU took an early lead when freshman Alex Walsh knocked home a rebound off his own shot to put the team up 1-0. The Pioneers added 3 more in the period off goals from juniors James Dillon, James O'Toole, senior Michael Cardoza. Army was able to prevent the shut out, netting a goal in the 12th minute. The first period came to a close with SHU up 4-1. The 2 teams traded goals in the second, with sophomore Thomas Franzosa answering the Army goal in under a minute. Again, the Pioneers were able to take a lead going into the final frame, but Army stormed back with 3 goals in 7 minutes to force overtime. SHU goals leader sophomore Dylan Stiles netted the overtime winner, his 11th goal of the season.
SHU is back in conference play this weekend when they head to Siena College on Saturday. Its an out of conference matchup on Sunday when they return home to Martire Family Arena to take on St. Anslem College.
