SHU ACHA D2 opened SECHL conference play this weekend, winning 9-4 at Marist College. The boys got off to a slow start, giving up 3 goals before sophomore Jake Desmarais got the Pioneers on the board with his first career goal. SHU was able to tie it up on the second with goals from senior Matt Milko and sophomore Mac Goggin. Marist scored to close the second and pull ahead by one going into the final period. It was all over for Marist in the third period with sophomore goaltender Matt Dworkowitz keeping the red foxes scoreless in the frame. Junior James O'Toole got the scoring started with a power play goal shortly into the third. Sophomore Dylan Stiles found the net less than 20 seconds later for his first goal of what would be the first collegiate hat trick of his career with SHU. A second goal of the game from Milko, shorthanded, and another from captain Christos Caminis capped the scoring and sealed the 9-4 win for the Pioneers.
SHU has a 3 game weekend slated for this week, as they head to RPI on Friday. It's back home at the Martire Family Arena on Saturday against Merrimack before a SECHL conference championship rematch at Army on Sunday.
