SHU ACHA D2 took both games this weekend, defeating SECHL opponent Siena College 5-4 and St. Anslem College 4-1. They improve to 9-3 on the year so far.
On Saturday, they headed up to Albany, NY to take on conference opponent Siena College. SHU was first on the board with a goal in the first period from senior Matt Milko. Junior James O'Toole scored his first career hat trick, netting 3 in the second period to maintain the Pioneer lead. Siena was able to respond with 3 of their own in the frame. The Saints tied it in the first half of the third period and it was a tight 10 minutes before sophomore Thomas Franzosa scored the game winner off assists from senior Solon Mihas and freshman Alex Walsh. With the win, SHU moves to 3-1 in SECHL play at this point in the campaign.
Sunday, the team was back home at the Martire Family Arena to take on St. Anslem College. The Pioneers were looking to defend their win from earlier in the season. St. Anslem opened the game with the first goal, before SHU was able to answer with one of their own with a goal from freshman Will Martin. O'Toole added his fourth goal of the weekend in the first minute of the second to put the home team ahead. SHU was able to add goals from Franzosa and sophomore Rob Moliterno while sophomore Matt Dworkowitz kept the visitors scoreless to secure the win.
This weekend, SHU heads to the ACHA D2 Showcase at UMass – Amherst to take on UMass, University of New Hampshire, and Florida Gulf Coast University. For all the latest on the team, follow us on Instagram shu.acha.hockey
