The Sacred Heart NCBA Club Baseball team opened its 2024-2025 season on Sunday September 22nd when it traveled to Garden City, NY to face the Adelphi Panthers. The Pioneers won both games in convincing fashion.
Game One: Freshman Dermot McSpedon collected four hits in five at bats, as Sacred Heart Club Baseball defeated Adelphi Club Baseball 12-2. McSpedon doubled in the seventh inning, singled in the fourth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the third inning. A double by
Nicholas Scerbak put Sacred Heart on the board in the top of the second. The Pioneers added one run in the third when
Ryan Lynch was struck by a pitch, making the score 3-0. The Pioneers scored six runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning.
Brian McGovern drew a walk, scoring one, Lynch singled, scoring tow runs,
Aaron Ariza singled, scoring one run, and
Luke Blasi tripled, scoring two runs. Sacred Heart tallied 18 hits and stole seven bases throughout the game.
Freshman
Nickolas Portanova earned the win for the Pioneers. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and two runs over four innings, striking out five and walking six.
Jake Nargi and
Trevin Rieger each came on in relief for the Pioneers and shutdown the Panthers offense.
Game Two:
Zachary Dezinski was dominant on the hill, as the starter ran up 10 strikeouts in Sacred Hearts 10-0 victory over Adelphi in game two of Sunday's doubleheader. Dezinski allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings while walking none.
The Pioneers scored seven runs in the fourth inning on the way to victory.
Gabe Santarcangelo singled, scoring one run,
Brian McGovern doubled, scoring three runs,
Thomas Kenn doubled, scoring two runs, and a passed ball scored one run. Sacred Heart collected nine hits in the game and stole six bases.
Sacred Heart NCBA Club Baseball is back in action on Sunday, September 29th, when they host Quinnipiac Bobcats in a doubleheader starting at noon. The game will be played at Notre Dame Prep located at 220 Jefferson Street, Fairfield, CT.
