FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart University Club Sports Department has announced the appointment of Bill Guerrero '99 as the new head coach of the University's Club Baseball program, bringing decades of collegiate coaching and leadership experience back to the diamond.

A respected collegiate coach and higher education executive, Guerrero returns to baseball after a successful 13-year coaching career at NCAA Division III SUNY Purchase in Purchase, New York, followed by time with the Connecticut Gators, one of the region's premier AAU baseball organizations. Prior to SUNY Purchase, he also coached Stratford American Legion team. 

During his tenure at SUNY Purchase, Guerrero led the Panthers to new heights and was recognized with the 2013 Skyline Conference Coach of the Year Award. He was also named SUNY Purchase Coach of the Year, earning acclaim for developing student-athletes both on and off the field. Under his leadership, numerous players received Player-of-the Year, Pitcher-of-the Year, All-Conference, All-Region. All-ECAC honors, and one athlete earned All-American recognition. Many of his former student-athletes also went on to play professionally.

Academically, he coached numerous Student-Athletes of the Year and many all-conference scholar athletes, including conference Student-Athlete of the Year.
Guerrero currently serves as Vice President for Information Technology at Sacred Heart University, where he leads the institution's technology strategy and innovation initiatives. Prior to joining Sacred Heart, he served as the inaugural Chief Financial Officer for UConn Athletics. A 1993 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Guerrero earned his MBA from Sacred Heart University in 1999. A native of Norwalk, CT, Guerrero attended Norwalk High School, where he was selected to the All-City and Connecticut State All-Star team in 1988, and then went to the University of Connecticut.

As head coach, Guerrero will focus on creating a competitive and rewarding baseball experience for student-athletes while reinforcing the values of leadership, teamwork, and academic excellence.

Guerrero's return to coaching represents an exciting new chapter for the Club Baseball program and reinforces Sacred Heart University's commitment to providing meaningful athletic opportunities that complement the student experience.
