The Sacred Heart NCBA D2 Club Baseball team hosted #1 ranked Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday October 19th at Veterans Memorial Park.
Game One
The Pioneers were able to get on the board early in the bottom of the first inning after Michael Marano singled to center field, Aldo Vittozzzi singled down the right field line, and Bryant committed an error, each scoring one run. SHU was able to push another un across the board in the second after Marano grounded into a fielder's choice. In the third,
Dermot McSpedon singled down the left field line adding two more runs, making the score 6-0.
Zachary Dezinksi earned the win for the Pioneers. The pitcher allowed for hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking two.
Game Two
Sacred Heart stayed in it until the end, but Bryant pulled away late in a 4-3 victory in game two. The game was tied at three in the top of the seventh when Bryant hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
The Pioneers took the lead in the bottom of the third when Marano hit into a fielders choice, but two runs scored, to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. A sacrifice fly by Marano gave SHU the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Nickolas Portanova stepped on the hill first for Sacred Heart. the starter allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking four.
Trevin Rieger took the loss for the Pioneers. The reliever went one inning, giving up two runs on one hit, striking out none and walking two.
The Pioneers are back in action this weekend when they play host to Quinnipiac on October 25th adn 26th. All three games will be played at Veterans Memorial Park with Saturday's single game starting at 9am and Sunday's doubleheader starting at 11am.
