SHU ACHA D2 was back on the road this past weekend facing Fairfield University on Saturday night and then had a quick turnaround trip up to RPI Sunday afternoon. In the opening 3 minutes against Fairfield, Junior forward, Rob Moliterno found the back of the net, putting the Pioneers up 1-0. That score would hold until the end of the 1st period. Fairfield University found the back of the net 6 minutes into the second period. Going into the third period tied 1-1, Fairfield scored an early shorthanded goal. However, a minute later Sophomore Forward, Alex Walsh found Junior forward, Thomas Franzosa on the power play to tie the game 2-2. The Pioneers picked up two more goals from Junior, Rob Moliterno and Matt Gandolfo. Unfortunately, the Pioneers could not hold off Fairfield, allowing them to claw back scoring 4 unanswered goals in the third period. The Pioneers had a quick turnaround for a 12pm puck drop at RPI. The game started off with RPI finding the back of the net right before the halfway point of the first period. A minute later, Senior forward, James O'Toole found the net making it 1-1. In the last 5 minutes of the 1st period, Junior defenseman, Tyler Walles ripped one by the RPI goalie, making it 2-1. The Pioneers were held off the scoresheet for the rest of the game as RPI found the net twice in the second period and once in the third. SHU ACHA D2 is looking to bounce back this coming weekend as they travel to Farmingdale State University, Saturday, October 8th and host Providence College, Sunday night at Martire Family Arena.
