After opening up their spring season with a win over Pitt on Monday, March 3rd, the Sacred Heart NCBA Club Baseball team went 1-3 the rest of the way in Panama City Beach, Florida. The Pioneers left Florida with a 2-3 overall record with their two wins coming against Pitt and University of Michigan Flint.
The Pioneers lost three hard-fought games against Grand Valley State (L 5-4), Toledo University (L 5-2), and University of California Pennsylvania (L 8-3). Key players for the Pioneers during the week were Sophomore catcher
Aaron Ariza who bated .333 in two games, Senior Captain
Thomas Kenn .308 in four games, and Sophomore
Declan Norton .250 in four games.
On the mound, Junior ace
Zachary Dezinski threw 7 2/3 innings appearing in two games allowing six hits and two runs walking and striking out three batters. Freshman Justin DiGiovanna and sophomore
Gabe Santarcangelo each threw perfect innings out of the bullpen for the Pioneers, and neither allowed any earned runs.
The Pioneers travel back north and will look toward the remainder of their schedule with a trip down to College Park, Maryland to face the Terrapins in a three-game non-conference series on March 22nd-23rd.
