D1 Club Softball won two out of three games versus Fordham University this past weekend. After losing the first game by a score of 6-4, and needing two wins to claim to conference championship, the momentum shifted for games two and three.
Before game two began, the team honored their seniors. Captain
Emily Cooper,
Catherine Meyers, and
Hailey Conklin. Each of them had the opportunity to walk out to home plate with family and be honored in front of their teammates and friends.
Sacred Heart took care of business quickly in game two winning by a score of 17-1 in just three innings where the slaughter rule took into effect. Game three was a pitchers duel, and Freshman pitcher
Kendall McNamara not only held Fordham to one earned run but she also collected two of the three RBI's for Sacred Heart while at the plate. This led to a win and final score of 3-2, securing both the series win and another conference championship.
The Pioneers will be seeded no lower than 3 in the Regional Playoffs in Glenn Falls, NY April 26th and 27th. They will look to win their THIRD straight Regional Tournament, and secure a third consecutive Nationals Appearance (6th overall).
You can see the girls back on the field this Friday at home versus Fairfield University, and at LIU the following day.
