Sacred Heart's Valorant Red and White teams lead a successful fall semester
Sacred Heart's Club Esports teams capped a successful Fall semester with strong performances across multiple titles, highlighted by championship victories from both the Valorant Red and Valorant White teams.
Valorant Red, captained by senior Sean DiPanni, entered ECAC Division D with high hopes for the fall season. The pedal was on the gas throughout the semester, as the Pios entered the playoffs with a perfect 8-0 record, highlighted by shutout wins over Florida International University and Tufts University. After opening the playoffs with back-to-back wins, SHU eked out a comeback 2-1 (11-13, 13-8, 13-9) win over Saint Leo University in the semifinals. After going down 2-1 in a best-of-five championship series against Rensselaer Polytechnic University, the Pios stormed back to win the Division D Championship by a final score of 3-2 (13-11, 12-14, 9-13, 13-7, 13-7).Â
The success didn't stop there: the Valorant White team, captained by
Gleb Syomichev, exceeded its expectations and took home an ECAC Division F championship for Sacred Heart. After finishing the season with a record of 5-2, the White team swept its quarterfinal opponent, Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, before facing the University of Idaho in the semifinal, in which the Pios were victorious by a 2-1 (15-13, 6-13, 13-11) final score. This set up a rematch with Plymouth State University, which swept Valorant White in the regular season. This time, the Pios got the best of the Panthers, defeating them by a final score of 3-1 (13-7, 13-3, 12-14, 13-9) to claim the ECAC Division F championship.Â
Beyond that, the Pioneers turned in strong performances across a range of other titles. Smash Bros. White, captained by junior
Salvatore Scurti, concluded an incredible season with a finals appearance, finishing second in Division D. Marvel Rivals White, captained by junior
Carl Casimir, also finished second in its inaugural season, posting a 4–2 regular-season record. Senior
Michael Morrison capped off a strong Teamfight Tactics season with a sixth-place finish in Division B and will look to build on that performance in the spring.
SHU Club Esports enters the spring semester with championship aspirations as it prepares for the MAAC Championships at Mount St. Mary's University in early April and the Connecticut Esports Showcase in mid-April.
