Newark, DE - The Sacred Heart Club Softball Red team traveled to University of Delaware for the First State Showdown Tournament this past weekend. The first three games on Saturday were pool play, where the team played University of Delaware, University of Pittsburgh, and University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. The Pios beat Towson 9-8, with Carlie Corrigan getting the W. Corrigan also went three for four with two doubles, a single, and two RBI's. Hailey King blasted her first of two solo homeruns for the weekend.
Even though the SHU lost to Delaware 2-1 in the second game, sophomore pitcher Victoria DeMercurio pitched a phenomenal 6 innings. Right Fielder Dreya Weaver had a single and the only RBI for the game.
The last game of the day was against UNC, with the Pioneers getting the 11-8 win. Freshman Kylie McNamara pitched the whole game, striking out five batters. Rebecca DelToro had an amazing game racking up three hits, two RBI's, two runs scored, and a walk.
Sunday, SHU crushed Loyola Maryland 15-0 with sophomore Kassidy Pratt going three for three with two doubles, a single, 3 runs scored, and three RBI's! SHU then took on Pittsburgh but lost 15-5. In just a few weekends SHU hosts Quinnipiac University on October 23rd and University of New Haven on the 24th! Stay tuned!
