Men's rugby alumnus Jonathan Grzeszczyk has made history as the first SHU rugby player to be signed to a Major League Rugby (MLR) contract. Jon played for SHU from 2013-2017 and was an integral part of the run to the National Championship Tournament in 2017. After graduating, Jon was a member of the Fairfield Yankees RFC and played for the Connecticut Selects in 2020. He competed in two tours with the Hartford Harpooners in 2021 and has now signed a professional contract with Rugby United, New York out of the MLR.

When asked about the future and his expectations, Jon said, “Signing with Rugby New York completed a long term goal of becoming a professional athlete and with New York creating this opportunity for me, I couldn't be more excited. To start this new chapter in my life, I feel there is no better place than MLR right now. The knowledge and professionalism from the coaching staff through the rest of the team creates a great environment for a new player to come in and develop into a better player.”
