Milford, CT- The Sacred Heart DII AAU hockey team secured its first win of the season on Friday night against Salisbury University by a score of 11-2. The game was dominated by the Pioneers from start to finish, including five goals in the first period. Defenseman
Jason Bonante put in two goals himself within 5 minutes in the first, while majorly contributing on the defensive side as well. Salisbury netted goals in the first and third periods, but was over casted by the tremendous play of goaltender
James Burtch. Burtch allowed 2 goals on 29 shot attempts, while the Pios had 49 shots of their own. Sacred Heart went on to score 2 more in the second period, and 4 more in the third. Head Coach Joe Lane was thrilled with his teams play because he knows this is only the start. "The guys played great. They never took their feet off the gas until the final whistle. There were a lot of good moments, but there's definitely some things that we need to touch up on. It's going to be a great season"(Lane). The Pioneers are back in action next Friday night at 9:30 to take on Hofstra in their first away game of the year.
