D2 men's ice hockey has named captains for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. Rising junior forward
Christos Caminis will captain the team and wear the "C" next year. During his first full season with SHU, he led the team in 4 offensive categories. He was named 1
st team all-conference and was voted the SECHL runner-up player of the year. He was selected ACHA All-Region Northeast 3
rd team, becoming only the 2
nd Pioneer in SHU history to make an all-regional team and was third on the team in GPA. He also won Male Athlete of the Year for the 2022-2023 Sacred Heart Club Sports season.
Rising senior goaltender
Corey Splaine will be an alternate captain for the second consecutive year. He started 20 games for the Pioneers this season, adding another 449 saves, 2 shutouts, and 2 assists to his career totals. He was exceptional in the ACHA M2 Northeast Regional, playing every minute for SHU in the tournament and recording a 1.50 GAA and 0.942 save percentage. He is a leader off the ice as well, placing second on the team in GPA as a double major.
They will be joined by Rising senior forward
Ryan Oechsner and rising senior defenseman
Gio Crepaldi. After a freshman season shortened by the COVID pandemic, Oechsner has 34 career points in 40 games, including a career high 5 points against conference opponent CCSU on February 5
th this season. Crepaldi has 30 points in 42 games so far in his career at SHU.
