The D1 Club Softball Team finished 4th overall at Nationals in Columbus, Georgia this year.
They won a total of 5 games throughout the tournament, passing their initial record of 2 games.
In pool play Thursday Sacred Heart went 2-1 with wins over Boise State and Michigan State and then fell to Air Force at the end of the day. Rain forced the team into playing just one game Friday, where they won their first double elimination game against Michigan State. On Saturday the team beat second ranked Florida State and then lost to Tournament Finalists Illinois by just two runs with a score of 6-4.
Two playoff wins, however, catapulted Sacred Heart into Tournament Sunday for the first time in program history. They started the morning as one of six final teams, and with a win against NC State (3-0) they were among just four teams left in the tournament.
Air Force, however, proved to be too much for the pioneers and the girls would fall again and officially be eliminated from the tournament. The teams only losses in the tournament, however, were to the runner-up Illinois and to Air Force who were the eventual National Champions.
The team said goodbye to three players;
Hailey King, Kassidy Pratt, and
Morgan Vigeant as their careers ended but after a poor showing in last years nationals, Club Softball has proved they are here to stay and can compete with any team in the Nation with back to back regional titles and a final ranking of #4 in the country.
