Philadelphia, PA- The Sacred Heart Club Baseball team traveled to Philadelphia, PA to face non-conference opponent Drexel University. The Pioneers hung with the Dragons but ultimately dropped all three games of the series.
Game One:
Senior Reinaldo Jackson toed the rubber for the Pioneers. He would go six innings allowing four hits and three runs while striking out one batter. The Pioneers offense got things started in the second inning when Christopher Seebode hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run. Peter Minore, Nevin Gonzalez, and Cj Wonswicz each collected one hit to lead the Pioneers offense.
Game Two:
It came down to the last play, but Sacred Heart Club baseball team was on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to Drexel University in game two of Saturdays doubleheader. Despite the loss, Sacred Heart collected seven hits. The Pioneers notched four runs in the fifth inning that was led by Ryan Thomas and Bradley Zsampar, who both drove in runs. Sophomore Patrick Kannaley was on the hill for Sacred Heart. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out two. Demetri Mesimeris threw two and a third innings in relief. Nevin Gonzalez went 2-for-3 at the plate leading the Pioneers in hits.
Game Three:
The Pioneers watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 17-10 loss to Drexel University in the final game of a 3 game series on Sunday. Christopher Seebode drove in five runners in the loss. Seebode drove in runs on a single in the first, a groundout in the third, and a double in the eight. The Pioneers tallied 13 hits on the day. Seebode, Max Morrill, Bradley Zsampar, and Logan LaRochelle each racked up multiple hits for the Pioneers. Senior Christopher Carillo started the game for the Pioneers. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and four runs.
The Pioneers will wrap up their fall season on Sunday October 27th when they travel to UMass for a Sunday doubleheader. The series with UMass will conclude with a 9-inning game in the spring with a time and date yet to be determined.
