On Saturday January 27th the #22 ranked Sacred Heart ACHA D3 Club Hockey team defeated #25 ranked UMass Minuteman 5-3 increasing their season record to 15-1. 

The Minuteman got on the board first with an even strength goal at 18:59 but the Pioneers would answer back on a power play goal scored by junior forward Michael Angeletti off an assist from freshman Charles Tyrrell in the 13th minute of the first period. 

The game remained a deadlock through the second period until UMass opened the third period with two quick even strength goals. The Pioneers were able to answer with freshman Brady Marszalek scoring off an assist from sophomore Declan Lovett and sophomore Jeremiah Ryan at 17:31 of the third period. Freshman Conall Gately tied the game up with a goal of his own assisted from graduate student Austin Jellison with 15:45 remaining. 

After ten minutes of back-and-forth hockey Senior Thomas Howell gave the Pioneers the lead with a go-ahead goal at 6:55 assisted by Angeletti. The goal would give the Pioneers their first lead of the game. About 12 seconds after Howell goal freshman Conall Gately put the Pioneers up by two with a goal assisted by junior Jack Reid to put the game away. 

The Pioneers will take their 15-1 record up north to Sparkle, New York when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday February 2nd at 8pm before coming back home on Sunday February 4th to host Western Connecticut State University on Senior Day.
