It has been an historic year for the Sacred Heart D3 Men's Ice Hockey team. After it was announced that the team had qualified for the program's first ever ACHA National Championship, the team packed their bags and traveled to Kings Point, NY to participate in the MCHC Conference Tournament.
The Pioneers were the 1st overall seed after securing the regular season championship with a conference record of 14-0. The Pioneers earned a first-round bye, faced off against SUNY Maritime in the semi-finals and won by a score of 3-0 to advance to their third straight MCHC Championship Game. The team would go up against St. Thomas Aquanis College in the Championship Game whom the Pioneers hold a 2-0 record against and a 16-7 goal differential this year. The team wasted little to no time against the Spartans and convincingly handed STAC a 10-0 loss that awarded the Pioneers to raise the MCHC Championship Trophy for the second straight season.
The team will now prepare for their hardest stretch of games this season with their pool selection of # 2 Hope College, #7 Dartmouth College, and #10 Calvin University. The Pioneers most recently played Dartmouth College back in October and suffered a 4-2 defeat. It will be the first time Sacred Heart will face Hope College and Calvin University.
