On Nov. 9-10, the Sacred Heart University Figure Skating team competed at their first qualifying competition of the 2024-2025 season, the Violet Ice Classic hosted by New York University. The team finished fifth overall with a cumulative 206 points and 19 podium placements!
In Excel Pre-Preliminary (group A), Gianna Cammarano (Sr) placed second, while Juliana Prete also secured the silver medal in Excel Pre-Preliminary (group B).
Valentina Massoni (Sr) placed tenth in Excel Preliminary Plus.
Erin Regan (Grad) placed third in Excel Juvenile (group A). In Excel Juvenile (group B), Sophia Fortunado (Fr) made her debut in collegiate figure skating, coming in seventh place.
In the Juvenile Short program, Emma Whitehead (Jr) finished with a silver medal.
In Excel Intermediate (group A), Natalie Castelli (Grad) placed fifth. Whitehead also secured a silver medal in Excel Intermediate (group B).
Jillian Falletta (So) placed third in Excel Novice. In the Novice Short Program, Falletta placed second.
In the Junior Short Program (group A), Sydney Robinson (Jr) placed second. Sacred Heart dominated in Junior Short Program (group B) with Amanda Smentkowski (Jr) placing first and Sarah Decillis (So) placing second.
In Excel Junior, Smentkowski placed fourth, while Decillis placed seventh.
In Junior Championship, Robinson placed second, and Sophie Iannelli (Jr) placed fourth.
In the Senior Short program, Iannelli placed fifth.
In Excel Senior, Isabel Munini (So) placed second.
The team's dance events scored as follows:
In Preliminary Pattern Dance (Group B), Prete placed third. Whitehead placed seventh in Preliminary Pattern Dance (Group C).
In Pre Bronze Pattern Dance (group B), Decillis placed first.
Whitehead placed eighth in Juvenile Free Dance.
Castelli received a silver medal in Intermediate Free Dance.
Smentkowski placed third in Novice Free Dance.
Robinson placed sixth in Junior Free Dance.
There were also three entries in the team events. In Low Team Maneuvers, Fortunado, Massoni and Whitehead placed third, securing the first-ever medal for the event in the team's history.
Castelli, Falletta and Regan competed in Intermediate Team Maneuvers and placed seventh.
Wrapping up the competition, Alyssa Dunn (Grad), Jenna Kilpatrick (So), Iannelli, and Smentkowski placed sixth in High Team Maneuvers
