Five SHU students played in the 2025 New London County & City Championship at Connecticut College on October 26. The tournament was sponsored by the Connecticut State Chess Association (CSCA). All five students placed high in their sections.
In the Open section, senior NM Mark DeDona finished in a tie for 3rd with a score of 2.5/4.0.
In the U1600 section, senior Aidan Shamas finished in a tie for 3rd with a score of 2.0/4.0.
In the U1200 section, freshman Sam Deeney finished in 1st place with a score of 3.5/4.0. Sophomore Michael Baker finished in a 2nd place tie with a 3.0/4.0 score.
In the U800 section, sophomore Ben Mandler finished in 1st place with a perfect 4.0/4.0 score.
