Sacred Heart Club Tennis Wraps Up a Competitive Fall Semester

The Sacred Heart University Club Tennis team delivered an exciting and hard-fought Fall semester, highlighted by strong early victories and standout individual performances at the New England USTA Tennis on Campus Sectionals. The Pioneers opened play on October 12 with a successful outing, earning two wins in dominating fashion. SHU defeated Bryant University 30–7 and followed with a thrilling 28–26 victory over the University of Rhode Island, showcasing depth, composure, and momentum heading into Sectionals. At the New England USTA Tennis on Campus Sectionals, held October 25–26, SHU faced a tough field of regional competition. On day one, the team battled against UMass Lowell and Dartmouth, ultimately falling 12–22 and 6–30, respectively. The Pioneers regrouped on day two, beginning with a hard-fought match against Brown (L 11–28) before earning a strong 27–14 win over Maine. SHU closed the weekend with a narrow 18–23 loss to Amherst in one of their most competitive match ups of the tournament. Despite the challenging slate, several players delivered standout performances throughout the Sectionals weekend. Christian Mayorga finished an impressive 3–0 in men's doubles, while Alex Cestaro went 2–0 in the same category. In women's singles, Lia Nowak shined with a 3–1 record, demonstrating consistency and grit against top-level competition.
