SHU Club Chess Competes in the 2025 CT Speed Chess Championship

The 2025 Connecticut Speed Chess Championship, sponsored and organized by the Connecticut State Chess Association (CSCA), was held at Connecticut College in New London on April 5th. The tournament featured two sections, Open and Under 1600. Three events each crowned a winner as well as the best overall score out of a possible 30 points. Events were Rapid (10 min), Blitz (3 min), and Bullet (1 min).

In a strong Open section junior, Mark DeDona finish 4th overall with 20.5/30. He also finished 1st for rated under 2200 and 1st Collegiate. The Open section included three Grandmasters and four other titled players.

In the U1600 section, Junior Aidan Shamas finished in 2nd place with 21.5/30. Junior, Mark Khalil, finished tied for 5th with 19.0/30. Freshman Robert Capodicasa finished with 13.0/30. Recent graduate, Joey Cyr, swept the field winning the Rapid, Blitz, and Bullet as well as the overall top finisher with 26.5/30.
