Hartford, CT - The women's team played on Sunday 9/26/2021 against University of Hartford away at Hartford. It was a competitive game during the 90 minutes. Hartford scored in the first half leading the game. Although SHU was down going into to half, they did not give up. When the second half started, SHU came out with a lot of energy ready to play again. They came out with fire, pretending that the game had started over. 10 minutes into the second half, senior captain, Tessa Garcia scored a great goal tying the game up. This gave the girls excitement and was ready to finish up the game.
A foul was called setting sophomore Alyssa Alfieri up for a free kick. During the free kick, she placed the ball and Junior Emily Petronio ran with it, scoring from the pass. It was a beautiful assist that lead to SHU taking the lead during the game. Hartford got luck within the last 10 minutes of the game scoring another goal. This did not stop SHU thought. They still dominated the game, and the second half trying to score in the last few minutes. Sophomore goalie Sarah Santacrose had many amazing safes throughout the game, helping the team out tremendously. Although SHU ended up tying with University of Hartford, they never gave up and played their hearts out the whole time.
