The Sacred Heart NCBA Club Baseball team extended their winning streak to five games over the weekend as they opened up conference play with a sweep of Montclair State.
Game One: SHU 2 MSU 0
Freshman
Nickolas Portanova started the game for the Pioneers and recorded 18 outs en route to earning the win. The southpaw gave up three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out one and walking three. Senior closer
Justin Pesco picked up his first save of the season relieving Portanova in the seventh inning.
Offensively, the Pioneers were led by sophomore
Declan Norton,
Nicholas Scerbak, and freshman
Nicholas Sendrowski who all had two hits a piece.
Game Two: SHU 4 MSU 2
Sophomore Zachary Dazinski earned the win for the Pioneers. The righty allowed six hits and zero runs over fice innings, striking out three and walking two. Freshman
Jake Nargi collected his first career save. At the plate, junior
Jayden Amador lead the charge with two runs batted in the contest. The catcher went 2 for 2 in the game. Freshman Dermot McSpedon stole three bases for the Pioneers who ran wild on the base paths, collecting eight stolen bases for the game.
Game Three: SHU 10 MSU 3
The Pioneers wasted little to no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning after
Jayden Amador hit a sacrifice fly,
Declan Norton scored on a wild pitch, and
Luke Blasi walk, each scoring one run. The Pioneers scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning.
Thomas Kenn drew a walk, scoring one run, Amador drew a walk, scoring one run,
Declan Norton singled, scoring one run, Blasi drew a walk, scoring one run, and
Aldo Vittozzi singled, scoring one run.
Sophomore Braden Goledn earned the win for the Pioneers. The southpaw allowed one hit and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out two adn talking two.
Nicholas Scura and
Trevin Rieger wach threw shutout innings for the Pioneers in relief.

The NCBA Pioneers head into a bye work during fall break and return to action on October 19th and 20th when they travel to Fordham University for a three game conference series.
