The SHU Women's Club Hockey team had an action-packed opening weekend with two exciting games. On Saturday, October 14, they were on the road against the University of Vermont in a hard-fought battle. Freshman Angelina Apice opened up the scoring for the Pioneers in the first period and another freshman, Courtney Reynolds, added another one in the second period. Senior Maddie Zareski ripped a shot from the point for the third goal. Although the Pioneers put up a strong effort, they ultimately faced a tough loss with a final score of 5-3.
The team returned to ice on Sunday, October 15, to take on BC in their home opener for the season. While their performance was strong, they once again fell short, concluding the game with a score of 4-2. Notching goals for the Pioneers was Sophomore Shannon Tuttle and Angelina Apice. In both of the weekend's games, the Pioneers were backed by freshman goalie, Angelina Catino who had fantastic performance making over 30 saves in each game.
Next weekend the Pioneers will be back on the ice for an away game at St. Anselm's on Saturday, October 22 at 1:30pm and a home game on Sunday, October 23 vs Fairfield University.
